1000 Acres – Weymouth Wildlife Regeneration

Weymouth and Portland

Weymouth and Portland are two of the greatest places in the UK. Nowhere else can you find such a picturesque harbourside, beautiful sandy beach, and unique town centre all within one square mile as in you can in Weymouth! Portland is a hugely important place, being the site of the stone used for Buckingham Palace, Regent Street, and St Paul’s Cathedral. In more recent times, Weymouth and Portland have both become known as two of the great tourist hotspots in the UK, with hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

The Great Environmental Problem

Climate Change is the single greatest threat facing the world and, while they are noble ventures, simply cutting down on waste, reducing energy consumption, and moving to renewable energy, will not on their own reverse this man-made disaster. If we reduce our production of all things that cause climate change, then we are still left with the pollutants that have led to huge climate disturbances worldwide. We need to start working to reverse this problem as well as preventing it to get worse.

Weymouth and Portland have large areas of land which have been scarred by the actions of humans, including the quarry sites on Portland, the Naval base, and the disused areas of previous industrial and commercial use.

Here’s what we’re doing about it

We are looking to purchase 6.8 Acres of land and restore them to natural havens for native plants and wildlife. This will, in a small way, work to reversing the effects that humans have created since the industrial revolution.

Our work will be done in conjunction with experts in natural environments, as well as in partnership with local environmental associations to enable the areas to act as havens for wildlife, especially bees, to help reverse the woeful decline in the natural pollinator population.

We hope that this combination of rejuvenation of a previous scar upon the UK landscape, as well as introducing native plant species and bees will have a wide-reaching impact on the local environment, as well as contribute, even if only a small amount, to the reversal or reduction of climate change.

This project aims to create a wonderful area that can be used by the entire community, not just a small area of trees tucked away. The whole purpose is to enable people to experience nature and have a playful and restful place, while also knowing there are fantastic benefits for the environment.

Weymouth Wildlife Regeneration is part of the 1000 Acres project, a not-for-profit social project run by Intuitive Change Consultancy Limited – A private company limited by guarantee, legally unable to make a profit, focussed on social, environmental and sustainability projects – further information is available at www.intuitivechange.org

Any income generated in terms of sponsorship, donations, or other revenue, will be spent directly on the purchase of land, plants and trees, or expenses, such as legal fees for the project to be completed.

You can join us

We understand that this is a grand undertaking, and so we will be doing this in ‘phases’. Phase one aims to get the first project funded to enable land purchase and clearance (including legal/planning fees), tree/plant purchase and planting, and upkeep of any species introduced to the area. This will also enable us to provide a ‘proof of concept’, enabling us to achieve sponsorship of future projects.

We are not offering ‘rewards’ for this project, as this will not be something that either produces income or products. however, all projects, once complete, will be run by local people, for the benefit of both local and national people with. the ultimate aim of providing areas that anyone can enjoy.

Damaged Land

1000 Acres – Sheffield

September 18th, 2019 Posted by Climate Change, Climate Crisis, Environment, Fundraising, nature 0 thoughts on “1000 Acres – Sheffield”

Sheffield – Home of the Industrial Revolution

Sheffield is, without a doubt, one of the most important places in the history of the modern world.

For our first project, we are looking to undertake a project in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, the site of awful street tree culling projects and the site of multiple abandoned commercial and industrial sites.

Tree Felling Scandal

Sheffield has been victim of a horrid and widespread scandal involving the felling of hundreds of healthy street trees – vital in reducing pollution, providing a habitat for many birds and other animals, and acting as a natural preventative against localised flooding. While we cannot replace trees in the urban environment, we are aiming to mitigate the impact of this through planting significantly more trees than were destroyed.

This project aims to purchase an area of approximately 16 acres, and will involve the purchase of land, clearance of the entire area, and replanting of many trees, wild flowers and plants, as well as provide open areas to enable wildlife to return to this scarred land.

The Great Problem

Climate Change is the single greatest threat facing the world and, while they are noble ventures, simply cutting down on waste, reducing energy consumption, and moving to renewable energy, will not on their own reverse this man-made disaster.

Here’s what we’re doing about it

We are looking to purchase, in total, 1,000 Acres of industrial, brownfield, or industrial land and restore them to natural havens for native plants and wildlife. This will, in a small way, work to reversing the effects that humans have created since the industrial revolution. We are starting our massive project with one small project, as every great journey starts with a single step!

Our work will be done in conjunction with experts in natural environments, as well as in partnership with local environmental associations to enable the areas to act as havens for wildlife, especially bees, to help reverse the woeful decline in the natural bee population.

Our First Project

Initially, we are looking to undertake projects in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, the site of awful street tree culling projects and site of multiple abandoned commercial and industrial sites.

This project will approximate 16 acres, and will involve the purchase of land, clearance of the entire area, and replanting.

Why Transform The Environment?

Climate Change is the single greatest threat facing the world and, while they are noble ventures, simply cutting down on waste, reducing energy consumption, and moving to renewable energy, will not on their own reverse this man-made disaster.

Here’s what we’re doing about it

We are looking to purchase 1,000 Acres of industrial, brownfield, or industrial land and restore them to natural havens for native flauræ and faunæ. This will, in a small way, work to reversing the effects that humans have created since the industrial revolution.

Our work will be done in conjunction with experts in natural environments, as well as in partnership with local environmental associations to enable the areas to act as havens for wildlife, especially bees, to help reverse the woeful decline in the natural bee population.

We are going to undertake projects across the UK, with a guarantee of 200 Acres in each of the four countries. These projects, once complete, will be handed over to local ‘trusts’ to continue the management of the projects.

Welcome to 1000 Acres

Welcome to 1000 Acres

Welcome to 1000 Acres – a project aiming to regenerate the areas of the UK countryside that have been scarred by industrial and commercial activities.

1000 Acres is a not-for-profit social project run by Intuitive Change Consultancy Limited – A social and not-for-profit environmental and sustainability consultancy – further information is available at www.intuitivechange.org

We are working to create several areas of land, once green and beautiful, that have been damaged beyond recognition and are now laying as waste land. Using this land will enable us to transform huge areas of the UK.

It is well known that climate change is threatening everyone on this planet, and without drastic action, this could result in the deaths of hundreds of millions of people worldwide. This is our first step to countering this in the UK.

We are also working with local specialist apiarists – Bee Keepers to you and me – to help stem the tide of another ecological disaster, the alarming death rate of our bee population.

We are going to plant a huge variety of trees, plants, wild flowers, heather, and native species that have declined in number, such as the Bluebell and certain trees. Every part of the 1000 Acres projects is to be guaranteed pesticide free, to ensure the greatest return to life possible.

Within 5 years, we are aiming to have these areas designated as ‘wildlife sanctuaries’ and, in time, give them to individual trusts, who will be given guardianship of the land and continue the task of maintaining them.

1000 Acres is a huge project, and we need support for the first phase, which will allow us to start on this endeavour and really get started, so please support us today, and help us regenerate the damaged UK countryside!

Please visit our crowdfunding page to help us progress with this project and make a huge positive impact on the UK environment.
